Celebrating libraries in a digital world

North Somerset Libraries are taking part in three national initiatives during October.

National Libraries Week runs from 7 to 12 October; National Get Online Week 14 to 20 October; and Coding Fortnight 5 to 20 October.

These country-wide events showcase non-print services including free reservations, new library apps and being able to pay librarieswest charges online. They also feature free online training such as cybersecurity.

Did you know that home library members can download free digital books and magazines with a North Somerset library card from www.librarieswest.org.uk and have free access to amazing resources including Encyclopedia Britannica, newspaper archives, Oxford English Dictionary, Times digital archive.

Across North Somerset there will be:

Coding taster session at Weston library, Saturday 5 October, 10am -midday
Free Gadget Club help, Weston library, Friday 4 October, 10-11am and Friday 11 October 10-11am
Free Gadget Club help, Portishead library, Thursday 17 October, 10.30am-midday.

Local libraries have free and friendly support from volunteers to help people to get online and take the next steps. They can help with devices, internet, apps including library ones, Ancestry (free in the library and includes USA data), AccessToResearch, eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines… check times with your local library.

Library members can also borrow an iPad at Yatton and Nailsea (and at Clevedon soon); Micro:bits (at all North Somerset libraries). Groups can borrow Memories Shared tablet sets which will be shown at Weston Museum (in Burlington Street) during the morning on Wednesday 9 October.
