There have been two open consultation meetings so far, organised by Liberal Democrat councillors, dedicated exclusively to the proposed
Station Road / Walliscote Place / Alexandra Parade transport changes.
The first was an informal panel meeting on 12 August. A substantial number people were in attendance – residents, businesses, town councillors, and other interested parties including transport representatives.
The second was a drop-in session on 19 August, at which about 100 people were in attendance over the two-hour session. At both meetings councillors, officers, residents and interested parties were encouraged to engage fully with one another so that we have been able to collect a worthwhile sample of public thought.
Councillor Mike Bell reports: “Councillors have now had meetings with officers to discuss the objections and concerns regarding the proposed changes to Alexandra Parade.
“We have asked officers to look again and for changes to be made that better reflect the preferences of residents and business people. We will consult further when amended plans are available.
“I have made my view plain that unless the changes clearly improve traffic flow and management and protect and enhance green space in the area, then I will not support them. We should not be in the business of change for the sake of it.”
