Changes are afoot to the road layout around South Parade and Knightstone Road. This awkward junction around the Royal Hotel causes difficulty for both motorists and pedestrians who attempt to negotiate the narrow and blind double bend.
North Somerset Council has obtained government funding to implement the changes which will include a new pedestrian crossing linking Weston College’s sites of either side with the town centre. It will also increase the radius of each of the two corners and widen some of the pavements.
The aim is to make the roads safer, giving more space to pedestrians and cyclists, and improving visibility for drivers. However some opponents have expressed that the marginal improvements do not justify the cost or inconvenience.
The work is scheduled to start in September and take around four weeks.
