Time is running our to get changes to Weston residents’ parking scheme

by mikebell on 8 August, 2012

Time is running out to fight plans from Conservative run North Somerset Council to introduce pay and display parking in Weston town centre.

Local Lib Dem councillor Mike Bell said: “The Conservatives are planning to introduce pay and display parking in the town centre from October. We are fighting to get a fair residents’ parking scheme – with more free hours, free permits and more flexibility.”

Lib Dem councillors have ‘called-in’ the council decision – which means there will be a special meeting to consider the issue to try to force council bosses to think again.

Councillor Clare Kingsbury-Bell added: “Tory councillor Elfan Ap Rees thinks residents don’t care or aren’t bothered. We need to tell him he’s wrong!”

Please come to a special meeting called by Lib Dem councillors to help persuade the council to think again. At the meeting councillors will be asked to improve the residents’ parking permit to make it more flexible and reduce the cost. We’ll also be asking for action to help residents outside the proposed pay and display zone, including a residents’ parking scheme.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday 14th August at 10.30am in the New Council Chamber, Town Hall, Weston.

If you wish to speak at the start of the meeting, you need to notify the council in writing at the Town Hall, Weston-super-Mare before 12 noon on Monday 13th August and you should indicate what you want to talk about. Requests should be sent to Philippa Penney (philippa.penney@n-somerset.gov.uk)
