The Weston Mercury reports today on the council’s budget and includes the line: “No increase in car parking fees and charges are proposed for 2019/20”. This is repeating something that the Conservative Council Leader said during the council debate earlier in the week. Just for balance, it’s worth remembering:
❌ New parking charges are being introduced at Sand Bay from Wednesday 13 March and will apply between 8am and 6pm, seven days a week – http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/…/car-park-improvements-at-sa…/
❌ The council budget includes a target of more than £120,000 in extra parking fines in the new financial year – https://www.thewestonmercury.co.uk/…/council-to-hire-new-pa…
❌ The council now collects more than £3 million in parking revenue every year, an amount previously described by the RAC Foundation as “eye-watering”
❌ A proposal by Lib Dem Councillors to cut parking charges, introduce free one-hour parking on and off street, bring in residents’ parking permits and explore opportunities for a park and ride was voted down by Conservative Councillors.
