‘Resident fun pass’ for locals proposed

by mikebell on 15 November, 2019

A ‘residents’ fun pass’ for Westonians, which would offer discounts at top attractions, will ‘give something back’ to people of the town.

Weston Town Council has agreed to look at the prospect of introducing the scheme and aims to get support from the Grand Pier, Water Adventure Play Park and other businesses and restaurants.

Central ward Liberal Democrat town councillor Mike Bell said the ‘residents’ fun pass’ would offer discounts to various Weston attractions.

Cllr Bell said: “Weston folk pay for a lot of local services through their council tax and then sometimes pay again in entry charges.

“I want to see the town council introduce a fun pass for Weston residents that would offer discounted entry to places like the seafront water park and other facilities.

“The town council could also go further and partner with other attractions in town, for example like the Grand Pier and local restaurants and shops, to offer further discounts for residents.

“This is a chance to give something back to local people and help to boost local businesses and attractions.”

Town centre manager Steve Townsend said the scheme is a ‘great idea’.

He said “This is good news and a really great idea, it will help local businesses and Weston residents too, it’s a win-win situation.

“The key is to get attractions signed up to it because they will work really well, restaurants are also a good incentive for people to get value from, as are retailers post-Christmas which want to promote their unique offers and deals.

“The Weston Super Saver had
great success with BID but the scheme needed to be refreshed and managed correctly, and the town council has the resources to do that brilliantly.”

The authority agreed to look at the proposal as part of its budget setting process for next year and will develop ideas further through its expenditure and governance working party.

Excellent idea! As a single working parent, trying to keep afloat of the bills is hard, but I still try to give my little ‘un as much adventure as possible. This would really help.
