Equipment displays and demonstrations and advice on living independently will be available at a free event next month.
North Somerset Council’s Equipment and Demonstration Centre in Winterstoke Road, Weston-super-Mare is hosting the day on Thursday 10 October from 11am to 4pm.
Cllr Mike Bell, North Somerset Council’s deputy leader whose portfolio includes adult social care, said: “This is a great opportunity to see equipment in action and find out how to make daily life easier.
“In North Somerset we have a growing older community and greater financial pressures to meet their needs; 41 per cent of our budget is spent on adult social care – that’s £65.8 million on our adult social care services supporting around 3,500 residents with long-term care and more than 650 with short-term care.”
“At this open day not only will different bits of kit be demonstrated but there will be a talk by a service user about the benefits,” added Cllr Bell. “We’ve organised this event to showcase how equipment and technology can help people live independently and I would urge people to come along to find out what’s available.”
The programme for the day includes free tasters over lunchtime by the Meals on Wheels team; living independently with technology; a demonstration of dementia-friendly bathrooms; and representatives from community organisations and commercial companies will be on hand to give help, advice and demonstrates their products and services.
The Equipment and Demonstration Centre is in Winterstoke Road (BS23 3YW – next to the red Plantforce building). Parking is available and there will be light refreshments.
