Ellenborough Park West

by robpayne on 22 August, 2019

The section of Ellenborough Park to the west of Walliscote Road has always been in the private ownership of the Catholic Church, and in recent times has remained closed, locked up and unused.  Now there is a real possibility that it could be taken over by Weston Town Council and opened up as a public park and events space.

The Town Council already runs the eastern section of the park and now the larger west park could be added so that it becomes a great asset for the town.  Councillor Robert Payne said: “This is a great opportunity for our community, as it’s extremely rare for a new public park to be created in these difficult times.  It would also ensure that the park is better managed, kept cleaner and reclaiming the space for the community may help to discourage anti-social behaviour.”

Weston Town Council are investigating how this can be achieved at minimal cost, and bearing in mind the need to protect the biodiversity of the land.

I think this is a great idea. I live in Ellenborough Crescent and I’ve been put off from using Ellenborough Park East by the amount of dog mess that owners do not clean up…. Perhaps the Council could consider Ellenborough Park West for dog owners and Ellenborough Park East for families where children can run about without the worry of dog mess, perhaps more seating and flowers.

As a past Mayor, I would welcome any in initiative to bring this present eyesore, into town ownership. Ellenborough Park is right in the centre of the sea front, and should be a colourful recreation area for both visitors and residents.
