Coming to Weston seafront this August

August in Weston-super-Mare will see superheroes, rugby legends, classic cars and food festivals all heading to the seaside.

Thursday 1 – Sunday 4 August – Continental Street Market

The Continental Street Market is heading back into town following a successful visit last year. Located in Princess Royal Square, expect to find a mix of traders selling food and craft items from around the world. From hot food treats to fresh goodies to take away, all rounded off with some quirky and unusual craft items.

Venue: Princess Royal Square, Weston-super-Mare
Date: Thursday 1 – Sunday 4 August
Open: 10am to 6pm daily

Thursday 1 – Sunday 4 August – Dairy Festival

Dating back to the 1950s, the Dairy Festival celebrates the best of farming and produce in the South West. With visitors coming from all over the UK, the festival is expected to attract thousands of people to Weston seafront from 1 – 4 August.

The festival promises to be family-friendly with activities and attractions the whole family will enjoy. From falconry and milking displays and exhibits for the grown-ups to petting zoos, bouncy castles, face painting and rides for children.

Sunday 4 August – Vegan Fair

After the huge success of Weston-super-Mare’s first ever Vegan Fair held at the Tropicana in August last year, the organisers are making a return on Sunday 4 August. Whether you’re already vegan, want to go vegan, interested in the health benefits of plant-based living, or just want to try some of the delicious free samples and have a great day out – this is the event for you!

With nearly 2,000 people attending the Tropicana last summer, this year’s event will have even more delicious food and vegan produce from their carefully selected stallholders. The popular talks and demos will also be returning to the stage with some special guests to be announced.

Sunday 4 August – RSPCA Dog Show and Fete

The RSPCA annual dog show and fete on the Beach Lawns gets under way on Sunday 4 August.
The fete, packed full of stalls and refreshments, kicks off at 11am with the dog show starting at 12 noon.

If you’re entering your pup make sure you’re there by 11am when registration opens. Dog show classes include: Best Veteran / Best Puppy / Healthiest Dog / Healthiest Bitch / Judge’s Choice / Happiest Rescue Dog / Best Young Handler / Most Obedient Dog and Musical Sit.

Switching gears to muscle cars and rugby now…

Friday 9 – Sunday 11 August – Weston Super 7s

Come and join in the fun at the Weston Super 7s, Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August, and enjoy a summer festival of rugby plus lots of spectacular entertainment, all in the company of rugby legends, and set on the fabulous beach.

Take part in the various rugby 7s beach tournaments, grab tickets to the party nights or simply come along and soak up the atmosphere at what’s sure to be an unforgettable August weekend for the whole family.

There’s kids coaching, rugby masterclasses hosted by some legends of the game, plenty of competitive rugby 7s action, a legends match, exciting party nights and even England v Wales in a World Cup warm up game screened live on the beach!

Sunday 11 August – SMUK muscle, performance and classic car show

The Simply Mustang UK muscle, performance and classic car show returns to the Beach Lawns raising funds for the Weston Police Cadets on Sunday 11 August. This event is all about the love of cars, whether they are muscle, performance or classic.

If you own a car you would like to show as part of the event, entry is £5 per car and an additional £5 if you want to enter your car in the Best Event Car competition. All cars wishing to be displayed must be parked up no later than 9.30am and cannot move from the site until after 4pm.

A brand-new event to Tropicana, winging its way from across the Bristol Channel from Cardiff is…

Saturday 17 August – Bingo Lingo

The hugely popular Bingo Lingo is going on the road and making a special pit stop at the Tropicana!

This is not your ordinary bingo – for those who haven’t seen the videos on their Facebook event it’s predominantly a mixture of amazing and not-so-good prizes, fast-paced bingo with a lot of nonsense and weird rounds in between. First release tickets have already sold out so grab yours soon!

And finally, for the late August Bank Holiday we have…

Sunday 25 – Monday 26 August – Stars of Time

Stars of Time Film & Comic Con returns to the Tropicana on Sunday 25 and Monday 26 August for its two-day extravaganza filled with a vast array of collectables, movie displays, cosplayers, competitions and stars from TV and the movies!

Among the celebrity guests appearing this year is ‘Nasty Nick Cotton’ John Altman, along with Katy Manning, John Levene and Wendy Padbury from Doctor Who. For the Star Wars fans Richard Oldfield from the classic The Empire Strikes Back will be meeting fans along with Paul Blake who played the original Bounty Hunter Greedo way back in 1977 in the very first movie.

For the first time this year there is a Cosplay Parade along the promenade at 12.30pm on both days full of characters from Marvel, Star Wars, Doctor Who and many more followed by the Cosplay competition back at the Tropicana.

Look out for the Batmobile, Scooby Doo Van, Lightening McQueen and many more movie cars along with fantastic displays from Toy Story, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Marvel, Aliens and Transformers.
