Councillor Mike Bell reports: “There are lots of good suggestions and food for thought in a new House of Lords report on the future of seaside towns. As ever, much depends on the quality of local leadership and the level of government investment.
“North Somerset Council’s political leadership has been weak on tackling the root causes of the challenges faced by Weston. Without jobs, infrastructure, revitalised visitor attractions and quality public services, all the flats and apartments in the world won’t deliver the change we need.
“There are no easy solutions, of course, but there must be a plan of action on how to get there. The leaders of North Somerset Council, who have been in the same job for years and years, are too quick to say “it cannot be done”. That needs to change.”
