North Somerset Council backed calls for tougher action to tackle climate change this week. A cross-party motion tabled by Lib Dem Councillor Mike Bell was supported unanimously by the council which declared a ‘climate emergency’ and seeks to make North Somerset carbon neutral by 2030 – amongst the toughest targets in the country.
Mike said: “The threat to our climate is the most pressing challenge facing our planet. We have no planet ‘B’ and action is needed now. I am absolutely delighted that the call was backed unaimously by councillors of all parties and that action planning will start right away.
“Action on climate change is not just vital for our planet, but it means a brighter future for our community, leading the way in green jobs, green technology and promoting and supporting local businesses.”

Thank you, what I would like to see is a large sign showing WSM/ NSC declaration of a Climate Emergency. I would hope people would start to be more mindful of the environment and maybe we could instigate a few car free days and some switch- off days like WWF promote.
