You can now report rogue landlords online as part of a new service available on the council’s website at http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/roguelandlord which anyone can use to report concerns about the behaviour of a landlord or letting agent, or about a rented property.
Other concerns that can be reported online include:
– Overcrowding, anti-social behaviour or illegal activities at a privately rented property
– A neglected rental property in need of repair
– Poor letting practices such as no tenancy paperwork or poor response to repair requests
– Unlicensed houses in multiple occupation or HMOs
Tenants can sometimes be reluctant to complain about problems because they’re afraid they might get evicted if they do. This new online form allows anyone from the local community to report their concerns and help the council to continue to improve property standards in the private rented sector.
Councillor Mike Bell commented: “I’ve been campaigning for improvements to the support provided to private tenants for some time and this is a good first step. More than half the people living in Weston Central Ward live in private rented accommodation and they deserve a fair deal.”
