The countdown is on for North Somerset’s first ever Weston-super-Glow on Saturday 17 November.
With over 34,000 people having already shown interest in the event on Facebook, it’s shaping up to be potentially one of the largest events for the area this year.
The event, organised by North Somerset Council in partnership with Exclusive Ballooning, is set to kick off at 2pm when 30 hot air balloons of various colours and designs take to the skies launching off Weston beach.
The balloons will include the stunning new Panther balloon which was launched at Longleat only last week by Exclusive Ballooning.
Whilst the balloons sail across the Weston skyline, spectators can explore the Eat:Weston stalls along the beach lawns or venture to nearby Icescape, the largest undercover ice rink in the South West, located at the Tropicana.
At 6.30pm the balloons will be lined up on the beach south of the Tropicana for the main event, performing a choreographed glow to music.
Exclusive Ballooning Director Andrew Holly, who is renowned for flying in unusual locations, including flying a hot air balloon beneath Tower Bridge, commented:
“This is something I’ve always wanted to see happen and we are grateful to North Somerset Council’s Events Team for helping it become a reality. We have our fingers crossed for one of those crisp beautiful winter evenings.
“This time of year is a wonderful time to fly. The colder weather can allow for flying throughout the day rather than just at sunrise and sunset and often brings more predictable conditions.
“That said, we will be keeping a close eye on the weather conditions and will make an announcement at 4pm on the Thursday before the event (15 November) to let everyone know what’s happening, so keep an eye on the Weston Seafront Facebook page (@WestonSeafront).”Leave a comment
