Stronger support for children with special needs

“I spoke out about special educational needs and disability services in North Somerset at a meeting of the council Children and Young People’s Services Policy Panel today,” reports Councillor Mike Bell.
“I’ve been campaigning on this issue for some time. There is some good news that, following a critical OFSTED area review of the council’s support for children and young people, improvements will be made. These include more money to support SEND services and education, health and care plans (EHCP); improved strategic leadership from the SEND Board; and a better and more open relationship with local parents and families.Some of this won’t happen overnight, but the direction of travel is encouraging. The challenge will be to sustain these improvements and make a real difference to children and young people now and into the future. I’m confident that if we all keep up the pressure we can make things happen.”
