Collection day changes are coming

by mikebell on 21 April, 2018

Collection days for recycling and waste services are changing across North Somerset so look out for more information coming soon.

From Monday 4 June the majority of residents across the area will have different collections days, as routes are changed to improve the reliability and efficiency of the service.

Recycling and food waste will still be collected every week, with residual waste and garden waste together every other week.

These changes mean that from June, crews will work in a specific patch for five days a week, rather than in a different town or area each day as they currently do.

This will enable crews to really familiarise themselves with local roads and manage their rounds more effectively.

It also means the amount of work each crew has to do is more evenly distributed, so it’s much more likely it will all be completed on the designated day.

The carbon footprint of collections will also be improved as vehicle mileage reduces.

All households will receive a letter in May explaining their new collection arrangements.

    Rubbish collections .
I feel generally collections are very good. However, much of the green recycling is spilt each week- I think the workforce is under such pressure, and green boxes do not last as long as they should as they are thrown around- sometimes returned to the wrong address. My main concern is the terms and conditions for those employed, and the fact that the service is contracted out. I remain mystified why N Somerset cannot employ people to do this and either keep the profit for N Somerset, or reduce the costs and ‘ break even’, thus saving money…..
