Helping children to enjoy reading

by mikebell on 20 April, 2018

Libraries in North Somerset are looking for volunteers to help with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The annual challenge aims to give children aged four to 11 an enjoyable activity to complete during their summer holiday and help prevent any dip in reading that may occur during the long break from school.

The 2018 challenge sees the Reading Agency and libraries working with Beano in their 80th anniversary year to present ‘Mischief Makers’.

The challenge runs from Saturday 14 July to Saturday 8 September. Volunteers will help children choose books, talk to them about the books they have read, and hand out stickers and other rewards.

The volunteering opportunity is open to adults and young people aged 14 and over.

This year volunteers are needed to help at The Campus, Clevedon, For All Healthy Living Centre, Long Ashton, Nailsea, Pill, Portishead, Weston, Winscombe, Worle and Yatton libraries, plus the mobile library.

For more information and to apply to be a volunteer with the Summer Reading Challenge, visit https://northsomersetlibraryvolunteers.wordpress.com, or contact the library service at library.volunteers@n-somerset.gov.uk or on 01934 426 657.

Apply early to secure a place. The closing date for applications is Monday 11 June.
