Change of opening hours for the Town Hall, library and contact centre

by mikebell on 22 June, 2017

The opening hours of Weston-super-Mare Town Hall and Library are changing. A review of visitor numbers has shown only 6% of our visitors use the service on Sundays, so in order to make best use of our resources we will no longer be offering Sunday opening with effect from 2 July. The Campus library in Worle will remain open from 10.00am until 5.00pm on Sundays. You can also search, renew and reserve books on the Libraries West website 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you need to contact the police on a Sunday, please call 101.

Our Council Connect contact centre will also have reduced opening hours from Monday 3 July.

You will be able to call 01934 88 8802 between 9.00am and 5.00pm Mondays to Fridays.

More customers are using the council’s website to report issues online at http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/do-it-online/connect/. For example, you can:

· Order a new waste bin or box

· Tell us about a pothole

· Report dog mess, graffiti, fly-tipping

· Find out more about social care

· Report a road or pavement problem

and there are lots, lots more. Have a look at our website to see what you can do.

I was interested to read that the town library will no longer be open Sundays after the 2 July. When the library moved it was made very clear to us that we had no choice but to work some Sundays – even those of us who were church goers – that was one of the reasons I left the library service.
As for parking in WsM now that the new system is in operation, I suggest it is merely a money earning system- often on a Saturday – when there are empty spaces around Whitecross Road, it is not unusual to see two parking attendants descending upon cars parked for too long or in the wrong place. No one paid attention to the parking restrictions for a good ten years- as far as I could see there was neither major inconvenience nor related accidents. Apart from preventing the mindless parking on the junction whilst in Tesco or the Co op, the whole exercise is merely a money making scheme.
