Bin removal from Clarence Park

by mikebell on 12 April, 2017

North Somerset Council has removed some refuse bins from Clarence Park – and we want to know what you think about it.

The council officials say that some areas, including Clarence Park, have more bins than is required. When taken together across the town, this is putting strain on the Parks and Streetscene Contract, with staff struggling to get around all the sites. Council officers want to have more flexibility to get contractors picking up litter from the streets/parks/hotspots, and so have taken the decision to remove some bins. It’s not about saving money but trying to use staff time differently.

Local Councillor Mike Bell said: “I’m assured that they have surveyed the bins within all the main parks and only removed them where they are in close proximity to another bin. They have tried to concentrate on keeping bins close to entrances/exits.

“I’ve asked for an assurance that the removal will be closely monitored and if there is an issue, that they can be put back as they were. This has been agreed. I’ve also asked for a map of the bin locations before and after so that I can look again to make sure this makes some sort of sense.

“We’d be happy to receive any further feedback from residents over the next few weeks on your experience of using the parks so that we can press for changes if necessary.”
