Continued pressure for improvements at Weston railway station

by mikebell on 28 July, 2016

Local councillors Mike Bell and Robert Payne are continuing to press Network Rail and GWR for improvements to Weston railway station.

Disabled access at the station is poor and the Sunnyside Road entrance was closed last year despite opposition from local residents and commuters.

We met with GWR recently to address these issues and can report that plans are moving forward for a life to be installed to allow better access to both platforms. Ticket barriers will also be introduced on both platforms, which will allow the Sunnyside Road entrance to be permanently reopened again.

However, this work could take two years to be realised.

Councillor Mike Bell said: “It’s vital that we get the ticket gates and disabled access improvements in much quicker than two years. This will help, but it will mean that there will be no through-route across the station unless you have a ticket.

“So I am additionally asking North Somerset Council, Network Rail and GWR to look urgently at creating a pedestrian footbridge across the line as part of town centre regeneration work and the station improvements.”
