PACT meeting 22nd June

Want to help improve Weston town centre? Come along to the next Partners and Communities Together meeting which is taking place on 22nd June 2011 at 7pm at The Badger Centre, Wadham Street, Weston.

The PACT meeting brings together the community and key representatives including councillors, police and council officials to try and solve local problems. It covers Weston West Ward and Weston Central Ward – which is most of the town centre and hillside areas.

This meeting will be looking at waste/recycling issues, drug dealing, alcohol related antisocial behaviour, housing, parking and other issues of concern to residents. Your Central Ward councillors will be there to listen to your views and try to get action.

If you can’t make it to the meeting, just drop me an email or get in touch and we’ll do what we can to help. We’re always ready to listen and to do what we can.

Whilst a number of areas in Weston-super-Mare are improving there is one that has has not improved and that is parking. No one seems to take this issue seriously. Not the police or the council each passes the buck. The problem is being made worse by allowing large houses to be converted into a vast number of bedsits without parking facilities. The Roads surrounding our Guest-house has too few parking places for the number of homes, this then causes upset and sometime a row kicks off in the Road. Will NSC ever employ traffic wardens?

Thanks John. I couldn’t agree more that the current situation is inadequate and that we need to stop the buck passing between the police and North Somerset Council. I am firmly of the view that the parking needs to be decriminalised and responsibility passed firmly to North Somerset Council, then proper arrangements around wardens, residents’ parking zones and fair on and off street parking charges can be determined.
